Olivia Macklin on 35mm + Why I love Shooting Film | Los Angeles, California | Travel + Film
This October I visited my dear friend Olivia in LA while she was on hiatus from LA to Vegas. Needless to say, we had a great time basking in the glorious weather and eating our way down Abbot Kinney.

While I was in California, I exclusively shot film -- something I've been challenging myself to do more often. When I shoot film, I pay so much more attention to composition and aesthetics because I only have 30 or so exposures per roll (aka 30 moments to capture). Given how expensive it is to develop film, this forces me to stop and think before hitting the shutter.
Check out some highlights from my trip below.
All shot on my Canon A1 + Portra 400. I get all my film developed by The FIND Lab.

Inside The Harper's Bazaar Icons Party 2017 | The Plaza Hotel + Midtown Manhattan | Event
A little background on this event -- Every year, Harper's Bazaar's own global fashion director, Carine Roitfeld, selects a handful of 'icons' to honor during New York Fashion Week. The star-studded list of honorees for 2017 includes (but is not limited to): The Weeknd, Karlie Kloss, Adriana Lima, Courtney Love, Grimes, Miranda Lambert, Travis Scott, Dionne Warwick and Courtney Cox.
It's always such a pleasure to photograph an event at The Plaza, one of New York's most storied hotels. The night was full of (famous) people watching, sipping mini-bottles of champagne, and witnessing the magic that is The Weeknd performing live. And yes, Kim K was there.

DREAM Diamond Ball 2017 at Lucky Strike | Midtown Manhattan | Event
One of my favorite organizations I have the pleasure of working with throughout the year is DREAM, a non-profit + charter school based in Harlem seeking to educate the children of New York and provide opportunities for them to learn and grow through team sports.
"DREAM’s mission is to provide inner-city youth with opportunities to Play, Learn and Grow. We use the power of teams to coach, teach and inspire youth to recognize their potential and realize their dreams."

Santa Barbara to San Diego on Film | California Coast | Travel + Film
After graduating college, my friend Sam and I took a road trip from Santa Barbara all the way down to San Diego, stopping in coastal towns all the way down the Pacific Coast Highway.

Dreamy doesn't even begin to describe it.
While we were there, I did a bit of content creation you can check out here. But other than that, I didn't have my "real camera" out much at all. It was nice to focus on spending time with my friend in the moment, without worrying about making everything insta-worthy and aesthetically pleasing.
I did, however, use my Fujifilm Instax Wide 300 camera almost every day while we were there. Overall it was a much needed analog vacation.

The 2016 Tony Awards Gala After Party at The Plaza Hotel | New York, NY | Event
Photos from The Tony Awards after party at The Plaza Hotel.
This may have been the best night of my life.
Those of you that know me know that I am a SLAVE TO THE THEATRE. So naturally, an invite to The Tony Awards After Party was a dream come true. I fangirled pretty hard the whole evening.
Behind the scenes, my gear was betraying me. My speedlight wasn't firing and the room was barely lit, meaning that without a flash, my camera was pretty much useless. I made the best of a bad situation, though. I cranked up my ISO as high as it could go, and hoped for the best. I somehow managed to take a few good shots, and The Plaza was happy with what I delivered. *Phew*
All in all, it turned out pretty great. I got to meet some of my idols AND I have proof.
